B’nai Brith 2016 Murray Scharf : We’re Proud of You Award

Everyone at SCOA is extremely excited about Murray Scharf being recognized with the We’re Proud of You Award presented by the B’nai Brith.

Murray Scharf is a founding member of SCMurray Scharf01 (1)OA and has carried many assignments for SCOA.  Most recently, Murray acted as Ambassador to promote SCOA’s 25th Anniversary.  This role included appealing to SCOA supporters for a commemorative fund called Cornerstone.  This fund is to support SCOA’s innovations for making life better for seniors.  The supporters responded very positively to this appeal and the results are deemed to be successful.  The fund is a huge step forward for SCOA’s future.

Now SCOA has learned the award comes with a $10,000 endowment to be managed by the Saskatoon Community Foundation.  The interest earned from this endowment will be disbursed to SCOA annually.

“This is great news for SCOA” cited Jim Wasilenko, Chair of SCOA’s Finance and Fund Raising Committee.  “Not only does the award support SCOA forever from the proceeds of the fund, it recognizers an outstanding person working on behalf of SCOA.  The volunteer work by Murray Scharf epitomizes the talents and experiences seniors offer and demonstrates the value seniors add to the community.

Wasilenko added that with the recent partnership with the Saskatoon Community Foundation, SCOA has also started an endowment.  Murray Scharf’s award will inspire others to consider a bequest or a substantial gift to SCOA’s endowment.  “Imagine the impact of giving a gift that lasts forever.”

Murray, we are all proud of you for your volunteer work in Saskatoon.
